After nearly four years since the idea of my first novel, I’m DELIGHTED to share that Starling Darling will be published this fall. I’m patient with people but I’m not patient with my own ambitions, and when I tell you that it’s been first-world-problems horrible to not share everything I love about this first book of mine, please believe me.
It hasn’t been announced yet anywhere but the entire prologue of Starling Darling will be published in the upcoming issue of CIAO, the print and digital magazine I founded. As a special thank you, I will send you a special link for a discount on the digital edition before it’s published. The official date of CIAO’s next issue will be announced here in May.
A few other exciting bits of news:
Starling Darling will be published in early fall - official date TBD
I will announce pre-orders before summer
I will be opening up applications for Advanced Reader Copies (ARCs). If you want to read a copy of Starling Darling — stay tuned!
For Lucia, the necklace was part of her mother and the surreality of seeing it lay silent in the velvet box caught in her throat. In her trembling hands, it didn’t seem to be a gift, but rather like a haunting. Who she was before her mother’s death, and who she was now in her absence ached in Lucia’s chest. She snapped the lid shut and thrust it back towards the attorney.
“I can’t accept this.”

What I’m working on this month:
Line edits + beta reader feedback for Starling, Darling
Review of concept painting for the cover design of Starling, Darling
Continue outline of my next book, a romantasy that is Count of Monte Cristo meets magic (project titled Luna)
If you’ve been here for a bit, I’ve been talking about this book since 2020. Finishing my first novel meant I was learning how to write a story for the first time. Now that I’ve begun working on my third novel (a romantasy!) I’ve become more confident in my writing routine that works for me.
Would you be interested in a letter about my writing process? Let me know and I can make that the main topic for next month.
Until next time,
Erica
